My guest bedroom is a mess. It's the place everything goes to be thrown in a pile until I find something to do with it or somewhere else to put it. The lack of furniture in this room makes it even worse. It is just one big, giant, empty space, so easy to fill with junk! So I decided to tackle one of the main problems first....my craft and office supplies. You see in my previous apartment I had an actual office. I had a desk, a bookcase, and a closet. It was cute and had a purpose, however I had to give up an office for a guest bedroom. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled about having a guest bedroom. I can have guests come stay the night and they don't have to sleep on an air mattress (but I have to get an actual bed for this to happen. Small steps first. I guess I should make room for the bed first).
Anyways, I have this one tiny bi-fold door closet in my guest bedroom. You can't really store too much there, and not sure what I would really use it for, so I decided to convert it to my "office." My mom had a spare dresser in her basement. We took the drawers out, painted it with white chalk paint, and put some wood in place of the drawers to make the openings shelves. I used baskets and crates to sort and store all of my supplies. I tied on a craft paper tag to each one labeling what was in them. I have a box full of notecards and envelopes, one full of greeting cards, one with vinyl and scrapbook paper, one with all of my party package supplies I like to mail out to friends. I have boxes with ribbon, gift wrap and tissue paper. All of my crafting supplies, paint, paint brushes are in one place. It really got all of my stuff organized. Every item has its place/home. That is what I love! I want everything in my home to have a "place," that is the key to staying organized and keeping things tidy.
New organized, cute, office closet! |
Just one step at a time is all I can do. Stay tuned for more pics of my house and projects.
xoxo,Maggie
